Deputy Chief William Covel
Deputy Chief William Covel joined the Waterbury Police Department in July of 1992 after serving with the Waterbury Housing Authority Police Department. In October of 1997 he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant and assigned to the Patrol Division. Three years later he was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant and continued working in the Patrol Division. In March of 2005 he was promoted to Captain, and assigned as the Administrative Captain. Later, in July of 2005 he was assigned as the commander of "B" Platoon. In January of 2006 he moved from the Patrol Division to the Commander of the Criminal Investigations Bureau overseeing the following divisions; Detective Bureau, Vice and Intelligence Division, and the Youth Division. In June of 2010 he was assigned to the Division of Professional Standards. In July of 2012 he was assigned as the Acting Assistant Deputy Chief of the Patrol Division commanding all uniformed personnel assigned to the Patrol Division where he remained until July of 2015. He currently serves as the Deputy Chief of Police of Administration.
Deputy Chief Covel attended Northeastern University where he majored in Criminal Justice. He is a graduate of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) National Academy session 241 in Quantico, Virginia. He was honored with the Waterbury Police Department Medal of Commendation. He serves on the Board of Directors for the Waterbury Police Activities League. He is a member of FBI National Academy Associates.
